Day 50

Review was today but i missed it due to dental appointment. The orange lightsource from the dragon need to share the same hue, there were still some difference between the colours used by the lights. And they still look unnatural, the light should decay away as it creeps towards the area near or under the stone arc.

Also received the female character from Mr Douglas today.
Mr Pang also shared with me what he was doing in Houdini, using "Occlusion VOP" to render a scene without lights and still have it illuminate. He had an environment map fed into Occlusion VOP, he could render AO or render the model using HDR map. It is said to render much faster than environment light if i did not remember wrongly.

All the talk linked to stuff like 1, 2, 3, 4-point perspective, barrel distortion and screen-space ambient occlusion (First used by Crytek on Crysis). Starcraft 2 which i was playing also uses SSAO, it was kind of like a breakthrough for games to have AO as too heavy to calculate it in real-time until SSAO came along.

LucasArts @ SIDM, NYP
The guys from LucasArts came to give a presentation to the students, we were given permission by Mr Ron to attend it, cool. Des Hinkson (Lead Game Designer) was also present! but he had a busted feet, was reading an interview on him over at cgsociety not long ago and there is was infront of me. It was really cool of him to be so involved in the Q&A with that bad leg. A lot of stuff were shared during the talk, like production pipeline, day to day work, training provided within the company and so much more!

Managed to fire off one question at the guys on stage, here's my question "Maya is being used by you guys to create almost everything, any chance of using Houdini to create some of the particles effects or even have it in your pipeline?" Sadly the answer was not at this moment but the possibilities are there, things may change but for now... Maya still rules. The session lasted closed to 2 hours i think, it was really fun... lots of jokes and laughters, it wasn't a formal Q&A thing and they even stood back a little longer to have one-on-one talks. These talks never fail to inspire.

Here's the article on Des Hinkson:

Unable to upload some of the progress on lighting as the rendered sequences are trap in my user profile...
